Why We Do What We Do

Our team has a special passion for execution. It’s the key to operationalizing strategy. It’s the key to gaining operating rhythm and scaling an organization it to meet its full potential. The team has successfully led the key functional areas of Marketing, Sales/Customer Success, Customer Service/Experience, Product Development, RevOps, Compliance/Regulatory Affairs, HR, and Finance/Accounting as well as setting organizational culture for cybersecurity/data privacy, communications, business process, and general operations. This experience spans across a variety of organizations with B2B and B2C offerings as well as non-profits.

Our featured services are Strategic Planning using our Strategic Planning Lifecycle™ approach and “Virtual Workspace” (a “secret sauce” to maximizing efficiency in the digital age whether yours is an all-remote, hybrid, or office-based organization). See the sections below for details on these and our other offerings.

How We Work

Equipping teams to work from anywhere is something that we have done since the early 2000s. Remote-first is our standard approach to engagements with synchronous collaboration occurring via video conferencing. The whole process of working together begins with a discovery call(s) during which the specific needs and scope of the engagement will be defined. We do offer travel to on-premise locations or in-person meetings/collaborations if that best serves our clients.

Featured Services

Most leaders recognize the importance of strategic planning. They will lead their teams through carefully crafting a plan in preparation for the coming year, socialize it in some capacity, and then set it on the shelf to collect dust while their teams roll up their sleeves to get work done. At any given time, that work may or may not align with the strategic plan that was made. This is a key and costly disconnect. It’s not a lack of planning that is the challenge. It’s the lack of execution – operationalizing that plan in a way that infuses it into the organization and drives progress toward the stated objectives.

Our years of experience running businesses and advising both for and nonprofit organizations, coupled with our passion for execution on all levels within an organization, have led us to develop a proven approach to defining and operationalizing strategic plans. We call it the WVG Strategic Planning Lifecyle™, and we would love to introduce it to you and your team.

Despite the abundance of digital solutions available today, various reports have shown that the typical office worker still uses thousands of sheets of paper a year – nearly half of which ends up in the trash or recycling within 24 hours of being printed. In a world where remote work is becoming more and more the norm, it is obvious that many organizations lack a framework for managing data and documentation that enables their teams to collaborate from anywhere. Even many fast-growth tech companies lack a cohesive framework or the appropriate structures and processes to manage data and documentation efficiently and securely.

The great dream and growing demand, work from anywhere…

Virtual Workspace provides teams with an essential framework for maximizing productivity and efficiencies whether they work on-premise, remotely, or in a hybrid environment.

The development of Virtual Workspace goes back to 2003, when we first envisioned and executed a plan for a “paperless office” in our health information technology (HIT) software as a service (SaaS) business. Our software solutions allowed customers to eliminate paper from key documentation workflows in their businesses, and we wanted to “practice what we preached” by running a paperless operation ourselves. This initiative brought multiple benefits to our organization, but two, in particular, stand out:

  1. We were able to eliminate the overhead of administrative assistant work and shift the team members in these roles to customer-facing activities focused on providing exceptional service to our customers.
  2. We now had a framework for remote work, allowing us to hire or deploy team members anywhere. This later became a huge benefit from a customer service perspective as we were able to embed team members onsite with key customer accounts while still keeping them “plugged in” to the team.

Since that first “paperless office” initiative, we have been refining what we now call “Virtual Workspace”. We have deployed this framework for dental clinics, churches, sports clubs, schools, food services, consumer brands, consulting firms, electronics manufacturing companies, and software development organizations. The general benefits of Virtual Workspace go well beyond staffing. This framework allows organizations to:

  1. Reduce Basic Office, and IT Costs
  2. Increase Productivity (reduce time spent accessing, retrieving, and sharing files)
  3. Improve Communication and Connectedness
  4. Provide Efficient Collaboration
  5. Support Environmentally-Friendly Initiatives
  6. Improve data security and data loss prevention (DLP) practices
  7. Equip organizations for remote-only or hybrid work

Basic features of this offering include the following:

  • Document governance Policy and Procedure (P&P)
    • File creation, retainage, and storage
  • Numeric folder structure and file naming convention
    • Encompassing all files created within the organization
  • Internal “Virtual Office” Intranet
    • The “grand central station” of organizational information
  • Document templates/standards
    • Spreadsheets, Notes of meeting, etc.

Science and Art

A successful Virtual Workspace Engagement requires a combination of science and art. The “Science” is our Document Governance Policies and Procedures (P&P) template developed over ~20 years in combination with technology solutions and toolkits. The “Art” is our team guiding you to create lasting cultural change in your organization by leveraging ~20 years of experience implementing and refining the Virtual Workspace framework across numerous organizations.

We start with a discovery call and work with you and your team to develop a plan customized to your unique needs and goals. Then, utilizing tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Quickbooks, Teamwork, Asana, and HubSpot we bring this time-tested framework to life in your organization.

Improving upon the quality and efficiency of tasks, processes, and workflows is something frequently on the mind of organizational leaders across history. From Frederick Winslow Taylor’s scientific management to Peter Drucker’s knowledge workers and the Six Sigma methodology of Motorola, people have been seeking efficiency and optimization for centuries. The growth of technology companies in the last few decades has created a renewed focus on process analysis and improvement as the availability of digital solutions that optimize certain work functions continues to increase.

During the WhittierView team’s first paperless quest in the 1990s, we analyzed every workflow in our company and discovered that we had some natural talent for process analysis and improvement. Our initial objective, as stated, was the “paperless office”, but the greatest benefit realized was the streamlining of processes to allow our team members to do “common things uncommonly well” (that means more accurately with fewer steps), so that the focus could be on serving our customers and developing software solutions that work.

At the WhittierView Group, we focus on aiding organizations in the analyzing and documenting of current processes and workflows, and then work on a plan to optimize them for efficiency. This could be accomplished via a Lean Six Sigma-type approach that reduces waste and defects, via the implementation of certain technology tools that streamline or automate certain processes or a variety of other approaches – we tailor each engagement to the specific needs of our clients.

We are passionate about customer service and doing “common things uncommonly well”, and would welcome the opportunity to assess enhancing those principles for your business in order to provide you with more time to work directly with your customers, leading to long-term relationships.

The WhittierView team started developing software in 1997. We had an idea that we thought would be beneficial for the home healthcare industry and started our first product using Microsoft Access for the front and back ends. Yes, that is correct. That is how old we are. We started deploying “shrink-wrapped” software to be installed on-premise in 1998 using a perpetual pricing model with annual maintenance and support. But we knew that was not planned for scalable, enterprise success. But, we developed an organization built on “lessons learned” and by 2000 we were deploying SaaS solutions over the Internet using an Oracle database, with software developed using Java and JavaScript, on a Linux OS.

By 2010, our software focus shifted to a mobile strategy and deploying solutions on smartphones and tablets. Today, our software development focuses on mobile strategy, Big Data, and AI. WhittierView Group is not currently doing software development in-house, but we have industry-leading partners to take our concepts and software roadmaps through the code design, code development, and testing phases.

The WhittierView team has been bringing products to market in the healthcare industry since 1997, with over a dozen major system modules. Our primary focus has always been to “Think Customer First” with the development of any solution, and that goes hand-in-hand with the commercialization of those solutions. We can assist your organization with the development of product concepts from Phase 0 all the way through the go-to-market strategy, including the plan for monetization in a way that will bring value to your customers while maximizing your profitability and long-term financial viability.

The WhittierView team has been deploying software solutions for the healthcare industry for over 20 years. We have deep expertise in technology evaluation for production deployments as well as back-office solutions, including software and hardware selection. The right sizing of solutions is of primary importance, whether software or hardware, to meet organizational objectives. You do not want to under or over-build, but you also need a technology strategy that is dynamic in order to keep pace with ongoing regulatory and customer demands.

Connected Technology

The team at the WhittierView Group has been deploying healthcare information technology solutions since 1997 – including delivering Software as a Service (SaaS) over the internet since the year 2000. You may see a need in a market, or even have a product or service concept ready to go, but how do you take that idea and make it something more? How do you build an idea into a business?

Or maybe you already have built a business, but your growth has faltered. Perhaps your industry has been disrupted and you’re seeking to adapt. How do you innovate your business model?

Business Model Development & Innovation are processes that are often even more challenging than product and service innovation – and they can be just as vital to an organization. WhittierView has been building and innovating business models – and helping others with their business models – for over 20 years, and knows just how pivotal a business model is for a company’s success.

The WhittierView team started delivering Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions in the healthcare space in 2000, years before anyone called it Software as a Service. We were early pioneers in deploying software over the Internet using a subscription model. In fact, at the time, there were many naysayers touting the value of shrink-wrapped software installed on-premise. We strongly believe in testing the veracity of legacy business models and using creative financial and technical models to deliver customer-centric solutions that provide long-term customer-vendor relationships, ultimately leading to increased profitability and viability.
